Agri-biotech startup BioPrime Agrisolutions has successfully raised $6 million in Series A funding, led by Belgium-based Edaphon, marking Edaphon’s first investment in Asia. The round also saw equal participation from existing investors Omnivore and Inflexor Ventures.
Founded in Pune, BioPrime previously raised Rs 9 crore in a pre-Series A round in October 2022, led by Omnivore and Inflexor. The startup is additionally supported by BIRAC, DBT (Govt of India), Venture Center, NCL Biotech Business Incubator, RICH (Telangana Govt), and UnLtd India.
The newly raised funds will fuel BioPrime’s research in crop protection, with a focus on co-developing novel bio fungicides and bioinsecticides. The company’s products use small biomolecules to enhance crop resistance to pests and help manage abiotic stresses such as heat, excessive water, and drought.
BioPrime, founded by Renuka Karandikar, Amit Shinde, and Shekhar Bhosle, is committed to making agriculture more sustainable through affordable agribiologicals. The firm plans to expand globally, launching its innovative biostimulants in North America, Brazil, and Southeast Asia, with trials already underway in the United States.
Additionally, BioPrime will accelerate product development on its proprietary BioNexus platform, which has identified over 170 novel microbial strains from a library of 18,000+ strains. This cutting-edge technology aims to further revolutionize crop protection and boost sustainable agriculture practices worldwide.
