Adobe has introduced a new platform called Adobe Content Authenticity, a free web app designed to help creators manage content credentials and label their work for artificial intelligence (AI) usage. Announced on Tuesday, the platform aims to provide a more transparent and trustworthy digital ecosystem, allowing users to protect their creative assets from misuse or misattribution. It supports a variety of media, including images, videos, and audio files, and integrates seamlessly with all Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Currently available in beta as a Google Chrome extension, the platform will be expanded as a free web app in early 2025.
Adobe Content Authenticity Platform Overview
In its newsroom announcement, company shared that the Content Authenticity web app is intended as a one-stop solution for creators to manage their attribution needs. The company emphasized the app’s role in enabling artists and creators to add Content Credentials to their digital files. These credentials serve as metadata that provides important details about the file’s creator, such as their name, website, and social media links. The platform even supports batch processing, making it easy to add attributions to multiple files at once.
Content Credentials: Protecting Creative Work
The app is designed to help safeguard creators from unauthorized use or misrepresentation of their work. Content Credentials can be added to not just content created with Adobe tools but also to other types of media files, such as those created outside the Creative Cloud suite. This flexibility ensures that creators across various disciplines can use the platform to protect their work.
AI Labeling and Opting Out of AI Training
In addition to attribution, the web app gives creators the ability to opt out of using their content for training AI models. While Adobe’s own Firefly generative AI models are trained only on content that is either publicly available or has explicit permissions, adding an AI label to a file can serve as a signal to other companies not to use it for training purposes. This feature is currently recognized by Spawning, a platform that aggregates opt-outs for generative AI models. company is actively advocating for wider industry adoption of this practice.
Limitations and Considerations
It’s important to note that opting out of AI model training may have consequences. For instance, if a creator chooses not to allow their content to be used for AI purposes, it will not be eligible for inclusion in Adobe Stock, the company’s stock photo and media platform. Despite this, the Content Authenticity platform represents a significant step toward empowering creators to take control of how their work is used and attributed in the digital world.
Adobe Content Authenticity Web App Availability
While the platform is currently accessible as a Google Chrome extension, the full public beta version of the web app will be launched in Q1 of 2025. Users can sign up to receive notifications about the beta release, making it easy to stay informed and ready to take advantage of this new tool.
